Tourism Minutes 7/13/2011

Minutes of the Tourism Committee held on July 13th, 2011 pursuant to notice duly given.


1.) Meeting called to order @ 9:30 a.m.

2.) Roll Call: Dick Doeren, Ron Hayes, Terri Berth, Ken Thompson, Beth Larson, Advisory members Pete Stark, Dale Mohr and Ed Zahn. Also present: Mayor Fulton, Kale Proksch, Jason, Jack Mlnarik, Don Phillips, Dale Carper, Atty. Calvert, Roger Reed, John Hubacher, Gary Zahn, and Linda Belongia Administrator and as recording secretary.

3.) Moved by Hayes seconded by Larson to approve of agenda as presented.
Motion carried upon verbal vote. 5 ayes

4.) Moved by Thompson seconded by Hayes to approve and place on file as typed the Tourism Committee minutes from 6/29/2011 meeting.
Motion carried upon verbal voice vote. 5 ayes

5.) No Correspondence/public input

6.) Discussion/Report/recommendation on:

a. Doeren stated the Events Schedule has been published, no changes.
Hayes referenced article in Journal/Sentinel.

b. Chamber Involvement – will be handled under item f.

Doeren stated the media packets were sent out.

c. Doeren stated no Civic Clubs have contacted him to serve food at the Marina;

d. Doeren stated as 132 boats have registered as of last he’s been told.

e. Doeren stated 1st part of week Tournament Vendor will arrive.

f. Doeren stated Registration @ Bond Center 2-4 p.m. Pre tournament will be at 4:30 p.m.; Gary Zahn stated with help from the Park & Rec staff will haul tables and chairs for finger food buffet at 2 p.m.; Zahn estimated will need 15 cases of water; finger food buffet will be $800 per Zahn’s estimate; Doeren stated any extra on water can be used for the August tournament.

g. Doeren stated the Top Ten Awards Banquet will be held at the Dockside for 35-40 people at $10 each. Banquet 5 a.m. for final fishermen that will advance;

h. Doeren stated he will meet after this meeting regarding Traffic Control.

i. Doeren stated the co-anglers will move trucks and trailers to city docks; they will leave at 7 a.m.
j. Doeren will meet with Dale Carper, Don Phillips and Jack Maas regarding Security.

k. Doeren stated Roger Reed will handle the Shuttle Service for just fishermen,

l. Doeren encourages the Business Morning Opening Times at least by 4:30 a.m.

m. Doeren asked that the Chamber put the message on the Reader Board Message “Welcome FLW” put up by July 15th

n. Doeren stated this is covered. Business coupons; Hayes stated they will be stuffing the bags;

o. Doeren stated on Super Saturday the boats will take off at 7 a.m. from Breakwater Park;

p. Doeren stated The National Guard mini tournament will being at 7:30 a.m.

q. Doeren asked about tents? Pete Stark stated he will contact Tom Bourassa as he has a 20 x 40 tent;

r. Doeren stated he ordered 5 Port-a-Potties and 1 hand wash station; will be delivered Wednesday.

s. Kale Proksch will haul out bleachers on Wednesday.

t. Belongia verified FLW will pay for additional rooms at Riverview Inn Suites

u. Doeren stated Jeremy Wusterbarth has enough Oconto Water to allow out;

v. Local Vendor Set-Up; Mayor stated electrical should be done by Tuesday; Doeren stated the Sportsmen’ s Club will not be service food; Tn of Lt River asked to sell food as a fund raiser; Doeren stated he has asked just about everybody; Jack Mlnarik will talk to his dept about selling booyah ;

w. Doeren stated Fish causalities will go to Kingdom Come in Oconto Falls as you need to have a DNR permit to do this;

x. Trash control/Containers & Pick up – Zahn will take care of

y. Doeren stated we will have a full page ad in the FLW Magazine; Doeren stated he will make contact on getting two ½ hr airplane rides to get some aerial photos showing the harbor area;

z. Doeren stated WOCO Radio will be at Breakwater on Saturday.


Doeren stated on 7/31 the Bicycle tour will be coming through Oconto and want to use Breakwater Park;
7.) Next meeting date – Follow up meeting after FLW tournament Wednesday, July 27th, 2011 at 9:30 a.m.

Ed Zahn stated he is getting calls on lodging…anyone with a room to keep a couple of fisherman call Ed.

Dale Mohr reminded everyone of the Fly-In; Again no vendors to serve food; Jack Mlnarik will check with his people.

8.) Moved by Hayes seconded by Larson to adjourn.
