Library Minutes 9/22/09

Farnsworth Public Library
Board of Trustees Meeting, September 22, 2009

The meeting was called to order by President Lacourciere at 7:00 P.M.
I. Roll Call: Present – Ballestad, Bucheger, Guse, Lacourciere, Peterson, Loberger, Young, Gilbert and Director Murphy. Excused -Gering

II. Minutes of August 25, 2009 meeting were approved with one correction to the date in item 2, date should be July 28. M/S/C Ballestad, Guse

III. Director’s Report
a. Bills dated 9/1/09 in the amount of $31.21 and 9/15/09 in the amount of $3,842.23 were
approved as presented. M/S/C Loberger, Bucheger.
b. YTD Library Expenditure Guideline was distributed. Director Murphy noted that expenditure did not include payroll that will be paid later this week. Also President Lacourciere noted that we are over budget on the line item of maintenance on the building. This line is funded only by the City and was cut to $1000 in 2009.
c. Nicolet Federated Library System – there was a meeting last week, which Director Murphy attended. Director Murphy will be attending a meeting in Minneapolis on Oct 6 & 7 that is required for the library to receive the Gates Computer Grant in 2010/2011.

IV. Committee Reports
a. Administrative – none
b. Building and Grounds – Via email - Gering is still pursuing help from the Fire Department and Building Inspectors about set-up for fire alarm system.
c. Finance – The finance meeting with County for the 2010 budget will be on Monday Sept. 28 at 9:15 at the Court House. All the County libraries will be heard at this time.

V. Correspondence
a. Received Certificate of Liability Insurance from Security Insurances Svcs., Inc.

VI. Old Business
a. Carpet Cleaning – Carpet Cleaning along with Scotchguard in high traffic areas was done by John Stamsta of Environmental Carpet Cleaning over Labor Day Weekend and the following Saturday. Director Murphy stated that the cleaning was done very well and many patrons have commented on how nice the carpeting looks.

VII. New Business
a. Director Murphy informed the Board that the library could use a sign identifying it as the Library, especially for new residents or guests to the area. The only signage is above the entry of the old part of the building. The Friends of the Farnsworth Library are looking into different options for signs and prices, thinking something similar to the Gospel Chapel across the street. The Board was grateful to the Friends for pursuing this. The Board suggested the Friends contact the County and City because they have recently purchased or are in the process of purchasing signs. Also to look at possible digital signs to make it easier to change the message. Peterson and Director Murphy will take these suggestions back to the Friends group.
b. Young shared information with the Board about looking into the Search Recovery Act Programs to see if the Library is eligible for grants to improve energy efficiency. Director Murphy will look into this.
