PARK & RECREATION COMMITTEE
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 9, 2010
OCONTO CITY PARK
1. Meeting called to order by Chairperson Young at 5:00 p.m.
2. Roll Call: Paul Welch, Brian Rice, Russ Young and John Wittkopf
Also Present: Kale Proksch, Jim Shampo and Jean Seckel
Excused: Vicki Grunow
3. Moved by Wittkopf second by Welch to approve agenda as presented.
Motion carried upon verbal voice vote. 4 ayes
4. Moved by Rice second by Young to approve the meeting minutes from
August 5, 2010.
Motion carried upon verbal voice vote. 4 ayes
5. No Correspondence or Public Input;
6. Discussion/action/recommendation on Parks & Recreation;
a. Copper Culture Trail Rules/Enforcement;
Moved by Welch second by Rice to adopt an ordinance to send to Council to enforce Copper Culture Trail (multi-modl) rules;
Motion carried upon verbal voice vote. 4 ayes
b. Review City Docks 5-Plan;
Young suggested budgeting for restroom within the next couple of years to help develop the park; Wittkopf would like to see the Trail Blazers trailer moved out of the park or something be done to make it look better…also mow weeds behind trailer to road;
c. 2011 Budgets;
Moved by Wittkopf second by Welch recommend to Council to approve the 2011 Park and Recreation Budget;
Motion carried upon verbal voice vote. 4 ayes
7. AAGESON POOL
a. Manager’s Report;
Swimming fees totaled $1,422.33…miscellaneous totaled $533.35; Y-T-D revenue is $8,716.36;
8. Discussion/action/recommendation on Holtwood Campground:
a. Manager’s Reports;
Shampo reported Y-T-D deposit $114,572.50; Shampo stated about 12 campers went out and played the disc golf course;
9. Director’s Report;
a. Parks Update from Board Members;
Freedom Park:
Smoking issue…would like to see rule to stop smoking…how would we enforce it? Install receptacle for cigarettes?
City Park & Campground;
The board would like to see the railroad ties taken out…redo road with no loop…safety issue with kids running back and forth; Beach clean-up…removal of weeds;
Copper Culture:
Young reported he received an email from Rod Barta thanking for the help with the park; Young once again suggested possibly having summer help put in some hours at the Copper Culture Park; Young stated that the people are using the park from trails to picnics and more;
Sharp Park:
Welch reported he was concerned with the downed trees on the trials being a safety issue; Proksch stated this will be taken care of in the next few months;
City Docks:
Wittkopf stated once again that he would like the grass cut from road to trailer;
Wittkopf commented that the rock border really adds to park;
Holtwood Park:
Youth baseball would like to develop a batting cage, improvements to Field 6 and install two more flag poles;
b. Recreation Programs Update - Fall/Winter Guides;
Proksch distributed a copy of the guide to each of the board members;
c. Special Events Update;
Family Fun Fest September 11, 2010 from 3:00 – 10:00 p.m.
d. Park Inspection Update;
Nothing new to report
10. Review expense/revenue reports.
Moved by Wittkopf second by Rice to accept reports as presented and place on file.
Motion carried upon verbal voice vote. 3 ayes
11. Next Meeting: Date to be determined.
