MINUTES OF THE MEETING FOR THE
PARK & RECREATION COMMITTEE
HELD ON WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 21, 2009
OCONTO CITY HALL
1. Meeting called to order by Chairman Young at 5:00 p.m.
2. Roll Call: Vicki Grunow, Russ Young, Paul Welch and John Wittkopf
Also Present: Kale Proksch, Mayor Nerenhausen and Jim Shampo
Excused: Brian Rice
3. Moved by Grunow second by Wittkopf to approve agenda as presented.
Motion carried upon verbal voice vote. 4 ayes
4. Moved by Wittkopf second by Welch to approve the meeting minutes from
September 2, 2009.
Motion carried upon verbal voice vote. 4 ayes

7 DISCUSSION/RECOMMENDATION/ACTION ON THE FOLLOWING:
a. Future Park Developments throughout City;
Memorial Park: Suggestion to talk to Earl DeCloux; Young stated it’s not likely because of price; Welch stated it would be nice to have a park on that side of town;
Pickle Park: Will develop next year, but would like to start throwing ideas around;
Holtwood Bike trial future development to connect with the multi-modl trail;
Harbor/Breakwater Park is being redeveloped…Mayor would like any ideas for the upcoming meeting on Tuesday, October 29th;
b. Dog Ordinance during ball games;
Proksch stated he wanted to inform the board of the new ordinance which would no longer allow dogs at the sporting complex during practices or ball games; Young questioned who would enforce this…doesn’t want the parks department to have to deal with that; Mayor stated enforcement of the ordinance would fall upon the Police department;
8. DISCUSSION RECOMENDATON/UPDATE ON AAGESON POOL;
a. Camera Update;
Proksch stated the cameras are installed and just a few minor tweaks to finish up;
b. Virginia Graeme Baker Act Update;
Proksch reported that we received the conditional approval plan which expires 8/11/2011; In the process of talking with Pool Works to get final improvements done;
9. DISCUSSION RECOMENDATON/UPDATE ON HOLTWOOD CAMPGROUND;
a. Manager’s Report;
Shampo reported this was the best year he has had of the 8 years he’s been here; Total through September is $124,542.61;
b. Golf Course Update;
Proksch stated he has been looking over prices and is waiting for proposals and references from 2 companies…will sit down with Shampo and discuss what our needs are;

c. Building Shed/Office;
Discussion on what best options are… to construct a building or purchase a construction trailer;
10. DIRECTOR’S REPORT;
a. Parks Update;
City Docks: Boat ramps in process
City Park: Bathhouse getting new doors and hardware…changing rooms will be open for next summer; Park is closed for winter;
Copper Culture: Shut down for winter
Freedom Park: Fountain closed-up for winter;
Holtwood Sporting Complex: Hosting Forestry Workshop on October 28th;
Sharp Park: Ice Rink in process;
b. Recreation Program Update;
Working on summer guide over winter for adult and youth leagues; Ideas for adult leagues…Church League softball, volleyball and kickball; Ideas for youth league… log rolling, archery, sailing and canoeing; Adult Programs…computer and photography classes; Photo contest for all groups
c. Special Events Update;
Family Funfest held on September 19th was a huge success…4 teams participated in the volleyball tournament, 20 entries in the sand sculpting contest…60 to 70 people in attendance for the Movie in the Park;
d. Park Inspection Report;
No major issues at any of the parks at this time;
11. Review expense/revenue reports.
Moved by Wittkopf second by Grunow to accept reports as presented and place on file.
Motion carried upon verbal voice vote. 4 ayes
12. Next Meeting: 12/02/09 at Oconto City Hall.
