Meeting minutes of the Forestry Committee held on March 18, 2009

1.) Meeting called to order by Brain Rice @ 9:00 a.m.
2.) Roll Call: Members Present: Terry Bendt, Brian Rice, Don Denor & Jim Hornblad. Others Present: Kale Proksch, Mayor Nerenhausen & Jeremy Wusterbarth.
3.) Approval of Agenda as presented: Motion by Bendt second by Denor to approve of agenda as presented. 4 ayes. M/C.
4.) Approval of meeting minutes from 2/18/2009: Motion by Denor second by Bendt to approve of meeting minutes from 2/18/2009 as presented. 4 ayes. M/C.
5.) Public Input: None.
6.) Correspondence:
6a.) Forestry Grant Updates: Received matching grant of $5,000.00; management grants, street tree planting plan.
6b.) Review budget with grant: $1,400 training & education; planting plan; $3,400 tree planting.
7.) Discussion/possible recommendation/update on the following:
7a.) Arbor Day & Selection of Trees & placement of trees: Arbor Day-Friday April 24th. Start at 12:30; 75 kids, 4 teachers, 6 committee members, need 5 adults. Plant 25 – 30 trees stake out trees on April 21st @ 10:00 a.m.
7b.) recommendation to name access road to Holtwood Park: Motion by Bendt second by Hornblad to recommend to Park & Rec Committee to name the access road Little League Lane. 4 ayes. M/C.
7c.) Wood Waste from Park Trees “what’s done with it”: No action.
7d.) Street planting permit & recommended street trees list: Handed out at meeting.
7e.) Review ideas to get work out for the Memorial Tree Program: Put in newspaper, funeral homes, churches, nursing homes, & Mayor will mention on radio.
8.) Next meeting date & time: April 14th @ 9:00 a.m.
