IDC Minutes 4/15/2010

Minutes of the Industrial Development Commission meeting held on Thursday, April 15th, 2010 pursuant to notice duly given.

1. Meeting called to order by Chairperson Doeren at 8:19 a.m.
2. Roll call: Dick Doeren, Joe Stiloski, Mike Trepanier, Howard Schaden, Wayne Bostwick, Vern Panske, Ken DePouw and advisory members Jack Maas and Tom Fulton. Linda Belongia Administrator and as recording secretary also present.
3. Moved by DePouw seconded by Trepanier to approve of the agenda as presented.
4. Jenny Holmgren teacher for the 7th grade Language Arts Class provided opening comments on the work the students have done preparing for today’s presentation; students representing the 7th grade covered the assets for the City of Oconto and the business plan for a Movie Theatre ; Holmgren stated the business plan for an ice cream and coffee shop was to be presented; the students met with the Brain Freeze and the JitterBean from Green Bay; both of these businesses were interested, but with Momma T’s now opened in the City of Oconto, they decided to hold for now; Holmgren stated her students will be taking a field trip to Momma T’s to discuss with the owner her vision for her business in Oconto; Fulton commended the students on the work done; Maas stated this is the right time for such a presentation, also commended the students on a job well done; DePouw questioned how many of the students have taken a tour of the Beyer Home; referenced the new exhibit that will be put up on Hermina Franks; Doeren referenced the Copper Culture museum & park…stating that today’s presentation should not stop here, want to continue this interaction with the students and involve other committees; Maas questioned the students if a theatre was built on the Kelly Pickle property how many students would go? Majority of students raised hands in support of a theatre; Fulton referenced brief conversation he had at the Business Expo a few wks ago, there is someone who has built some theatre’s in smaller communities, he will follow up on this; Trepanier stated the students in closing asked …what can the IDC do to move on the suggestion? Maas stated keep this on the IDC agenda, moving it forward; Doeren stated he agreed, this is a good start; Sara Croney offered to take to the Chamber of Commerce once the IDC has given the o.k. to move it forward; Fulton stated he will contact the people from the expo and get that moving…commended the students…all points were given by the students in the presentation; Trepanier encouraged the students to continue with brain storming what other idea’s … no idea’s are bad idea’s…is where it starts, not stops; Doeren encouraged the students to have a group representing the students meeting periodically with the IDC; DePouw stated the information given today by the students should also be given to potential developers…may given them more interest;
5. Next meeting 4/29/2010 at 8 a.m. DePouw stated he will not be able to attend that meeting.
Doeren asked that this information from the students be kept on the IDC agenda.

6. Moved by Panske seconded by Trepanier to adjourn. M/C
